  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup shredded sweetened coconut
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups vodka
  • 1 cup fresh coconut water (Buy a whole young coconut)
  • Fresh young coconut jelly for garnish (optional)

Instructions

COCONUT FLAVORED SYMPLE SYRUP

  1. In a saucepan over medium flame, add water, sugar and shredded coconut.

Stir and bring to a boil. Lower flame and simmer for about three to five minutes. Cool and set aside.

MARTINI

  1. Using a very sharp butcher knife, cut a hole at the top of the young coconut. Drain the fresh coconut water into a measuring cup

(Note: for this recipe you will only use one cup of the coconut water.

  2. Using the sharp knife enlarge the hole in the coconut so that you can use a spoon to scoop out the jelly.

Set the jelly aside to use as garnish.

  3. In a large enough measuring cup, add one cup of the fresh coconut water, two cups of vodka and the cooled coconut flavored syrup. Stir to combine the ingredients.

  4. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the Martini into a pitcher. Discard the shredded coconut.

  5. In a cocktail shaker, pour 12 to 16 ounces of the Martini and shake rigorously until it’s nice and cold.

  6. Pour into your favorite Martini glasses, garnish with fresh coconut jelly.

  7. Sip slowly and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

You can find fresh coconut in many local supermarkets nowadays. Usually they remove the hard green shell so what’s left is easy to handle.

The fresh coconut water makes a huge difference. I’ve made this drink in the past using those store bought little carton boxes and that did not do it for me.
