Spiced Turkey Burger

Jump to Recipe

This is a turkey burger that is spiced to perfection. It will withstand aggressive condiments burger eaters without sacrificing the flavor and at the same time it will delight the palates of those who are minimal condiment users. The spiced seasoning mixture is first cooked to bring out the masterful flavors; it is then added to the organic turkey ground meat. The burgers are then seared to perfection. When I served this amazingly juicy and flavorful burger, I added avocado slices and withheld the condiments. It was so yummy to the tummy. I accompanied this delicious burger with a side of baked sweet potatoes wedges and a warm red bean corn salad. Enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds organic ground turkey
  • kernels from 1 fresh corn
  • 1 large shallot chopped
  • 1 jalapeño seeded and fine diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 scallions chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro finely chopped
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh thyme finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 3/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 6 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 6 slices pepper jack cheese at room temperature
  • avocado slices
  • 6 hamburger buns toasted

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil over medium heat

  2. Add shallots and jalapeño. Sauté for 3 to 4 minutes.

  3. Add herbs and garlic. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. Add the spices, salt and pepper. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

  5. Add corn kernels and cook for 2 minutes.

  6. Transfer the spiced mixture to a medium bowl and allow to cool.

  7. Once the spiced mixture is cool, add the ground turkey to the mixture. Mix to combine.

  8. Form into 6 patties, about 1/4 inch thick.

  9. In a non stick frying pan, heat 2 teaspoons olive oil. Cook the turkey burgers in batches for 10 to 12 minutes (5 to 6 minutes per side). During the final 2 minutes cook time, add 1 slice of cheese per pattie – cook till melted. add olive oil as needed for each batch

Notes: Depending on the size of the frying pan, cook 2 to 3 burgers per batch – do not over crowd the pan as it will prevent the burger patties from forming a nice crust.

Use room temperature cheese – it melts quicker.

  10. Serve the pattie on a toasted hamburger bun and top with avocado slices as desired. Add your favorite condiment if desired. Enjoy.
