Broiled Turkey Burger | with Fajita Style Seasoning

Healthy Broiled Turkey Burger
Jump to Recipe

These turkey burgers are easy to make and healthy. The fajita style seasoning mix and the herbs, jalapeños and corn gives it a great depth of flavor. My choice of cooking these jumbo half-pounders is usually broiling; they can also be baked or grilled. Add some cheese like pepper jack. To add another layer of healthiness, I used Whole Wheat Tortilla. You can certainly use hamburger buns and any type of topping and condiments. Serve for lunch or dinner and enjoy with some Baked French Fries with Old By Seasoning. Happy Cooking.

Equipment

  • Broiler or Sheetpan

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground turkey meat preferably organic

Seasoning Spice Mix:

For the Vegetables and Herbs:

  • 4 tablespoons shallots finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic crushed or finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh oregano finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons Jalapeños peppers seeds removed and finely chopped
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh corn kernels

For Bread and Toppings:

  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese or cheese of your choice

I used Whole Wheat Tortilla, a softened black beans and avocados. You can use your choice of bread and condiments.

Instructions

Let's Make Seasoning Mix/Paste:

  • Add all of the seasoning mix into a small bowl. Mix/Stir to combine.

Let's Season the Burger:

  • Add the ground turkey to a mixing bowl.
  • Add in all the vegetables and herbs.
  • Add the seasoning mix.
  • Use hands or gloves to mix well. Mix until all the ingredients are saturated through the meat. Do not over mix.
  • Cover with plastic wrap allow to rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

30 minutes later, Let's Shape the Burgers:

    Preheat oven broiler if required.

    • Remove the seasoned meat from the fridge.
    • Create 4 equal portions and shape each into round balls. Shape into patties about 1/2 inch thick. To shape the patties I place a ball into one of my palm and then use the other palm/hand to flatten. Use tip of fingers to create an indention in the center of the burger.
Note: Indenting the center of the burger will prevent it from puffing/swelling up in the middle when cooking. This will result in even cooking throughout the meat.
Note: These burgers are 1/2 pounders. You can make smaller 1/4 pounders (8 Burgers)
    • Place the burger patties on an ovenproof broiler pan or a sheetpan.
    • Place the broiler pan in the over 6" to 8" from the broiler flame. Broil the burgers for 5 to 6 minutes.
Note: If making smaller burgers, cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
    • Remove the pan from the oven. Use a spatula to flip the burger. Return to the oven. Broil 3 to 4 minutes.
    • Remove the pan and top the burgers with cheese. Return to the oven and broil until cheese is melted – up to 1 minute.
    • Assemble the burger using your favorite bread and toppings. I used my whole wheat tortilla wrap to sandwich the burgers in between two. Recipe link in notes below. Enjoy!
