Moreover, no matter the brand of rice, they all generally works the same way. Second, always rinse the rice thoroughly, usually four or five times. An important step that many home cooks skip is soaking the rice. We found that soaking the rice for anywhere between fifteen to 30 minutes, helps to “open” the grains, resulting in better liquid absorption.
Next up, choose the right cooking vessel. A deeper pot works better than a shallow wider pan. We generally choose a saucepan. For this perfectly fluffy jasmine rice using one cup raw rice, a 2-quart sauce pan makes perfect sense to accommodate the fact that the rice will double once cooked.

- 2 tablespoons butter or ghee
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 cup jasmine rice rinsed thoroughly. And soaked 20 minutes
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 3/4 cups chicken stock or vegetable stock
Instructions
- In a 2-quart saucepan, toast the cumin in the butter. Toast 30 to 60 seconds, using medium heat.2 tablespoons butter or ghee, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Drain the rice, and add it to the buttered cumin. Add the salt, and black pepper. Stir and toast the rice for 1 to 2 minutes until it starts to crackle.1 cup jasmine rice, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Add in the stock. Stir. Cover and simmer on low heat for 13 minutes (or 2 minutes less than the package direction. Turn off the stove and rest, covered, for 10 to 15 minutes.1 3/4 cups chicken stock
