Minted Mango Kiwi Smoothie

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

A minted mango kiwi smoothie that’s a warm comforting reminder of a tropical drink as well as an Indian Lassi. How amazing is that? Mangos and Kiwis are probably the most favorite fruits, amongst many others. They are beloved for different reasons. To start, mangos are sweet with a creamy texture and rich in vitamin C. In contrast, kiwis are tart and nutritiously dense.

Hence, these are some of the reasons why pairing mangos and kiwis are the perfect match for this delightful minted mango kiwi smoothie. It’s a brilliant balance of an unimaginable sweetly tart flavor profile. What’s more, the spice flavoring of cardamom with its eucalyptus minty peppery notes and freshly grated nutmeg with its nutty taste gives the smoothie a dessert like feeling.

Overall, this smoothie is scrumptiously creamy with a smooth mouth feel. It’s a pleasant reminder of the classic Indian Lassi drink (one of my all time favorites). A classic mango lassi generally includes yogurt that adds to its creamy texture. Similarly, the unsweetened coconut milk gave the minted mango kiwi smoothie a creamy texture, albeit a slightly less creaminess.

What types of mangos are best for this smoothie? And can kiwi be substituted for another fruit?

Short answer, any type of mango that’s in season works. While mangos are seasonal, there is always one type available. For example, this smoothie took advantage of the Haden mango that’s available between March and May. However, the Ataulfo, commonly known as the Honey mango is an all time favorite . These are available between March and July. The most important factor when choosing managos for the smoothie, choose one that is very ripe.

Similarly to the mango, kiwis can be found year round. Kiwis grown in the US is generally available between October and May. However, New Zealand and Chilean grown kiwis are available May through October and March through November, respectively.

Additionally, when it comes to substituting kiwis, there are really no good match. However, since kiwis are tart with a smooth flesh, a combination of strawberries with freshly squeezed lime juice are good replacements. What ever replacements are made the smoothie will be perfectly tasting. Happy Cooking.
